If you are suffering from acne, or have ever suffered it in the past, then you must be aware of the numerous myths that are associated with it. Everyone seeks to advise you on the subject. This has given birth to a lot of myths. In this article, some of the most popular myths about the condition are exposed.

Myth #1: Acne is contagious : No it is not! You cannot contract it just by touching someone who already has it. It is not a communicable disease.

Myth #2: Stress : Stress does not cause it per se. Though it can help to increase the incidence of sebum, which is a primary culprit of causing acne.

Myth #3: You will outgrow it : It can affect people from all age groups and can be treated with the right treatments and care.

Myth #4: Exposure to the sun helps: In fact, it can have just the negative effect. Prolonged exposure to sun can actually increase skin irritation. It can also harm you in case you are taking certain medications or skin treatments.

Myth #5: People with the condition are unhygienic: Well, hygiene can only help in curing a case of it. But it cannot be a cause of it.

Myth #6: It is only skin deep: Though acne affects only the upper surface of the skin, its cause can lie much deeper inside the body. Proper diet, cleansing your internal organs etc can go a long way in getting rid of it.

Myth #7: Excess sweating cleans the skin pores, thus curing acne: Wrong! In fact, increased physical activity can actually increase the production of sebum, which is a major cause of it.

Myth #8: It is caused due to sexual activity: Sexual activity, or the absence of it, has nothing to do with it. This is true both for teenagers, as well as adults.
