5 Common Myths About Acne

In spite of the fact that the scientific knowledge about acne and its causes has progressed in the last few years, there are still many myths that continue to be held as truth.

The following are five of the most common myths about acne:

1. Acne is caused by poor hygiene

Skin infections are associated with acne, and this may be what has led to this myth. The combination of sebum and dead skin cells that lead to acne actually occurs beneath the skins surface, where is cant be washed away.

2. Acne is caused by certain foods

It has long been thought that chocolate and greasy foods cause pimples. There is no evidence to prove that this is true. These foods are not very healthy so eating to much of them can cause other health problems, which can aggravate problems with acne.

Some of the foods that do seem to aggravate acne when it is already present include milk and foods with high levels of iodine. Iodine is commonly found in seafood, so its a good idea to limit your milk and seafood intake if youre suffering from acne.

3. Acne has to run its course

Its commonly thought that the only way to deal with acne is to let it run its course. This is no longer the case – there are many treatments available to deal with acne. If youre suffering with it, talk to a dermatologist to see if any treatments are available that could help.

4. Acne is a teenage condition

While most teenagers deal with acne to some degree, it is by no means limited to them. Most peoples acne clears up by the time they reach their 20s, but there are others who continue to have problems in adulthood. Some people even experience it for the first time in their 30s and 40s.

5. Sun is good for acne

Sun exposure is not a good way to deal with acne. It can help to dry out excess oils from the skin so it does have a short-term benefit but the skin gets used to the change quickly and the benefit is lost. Plus, sun can seriously damage the skin and lead to skin cancer, so the risk is greater than the benefit.br

How Can My Baby Have Baby Acne, He's Not That Old?

Category: Health & Fitness @ 5:59 am

Acne is a condition only affecting teenagers, true? False. Acne is a condition which can affect people of any age, hence baby acne and adult acne are common. However acne is more common in teens. Acne is the number one skin problem in the world and affects huge numbers of people worldwide. And baby acne, although not common, can be a cause of some angst amongst parents.
What is baby acne? Acne is not totally understood, including baby acne. The cause of acne is not agreed on amongst the scientists. However the general consensus is that acne, including baby acne, is a condition caused by changes in the body’s hormones.
And when are the body’s hormones changing? Well certainly in the teenage years. But also at some other times in life. Like birth. When a baby has been separated from it’s mothers body by birth and it is living on it’s own for the very first time. And when it is also getting some supplies of hormones from it’s mothers milk at the same time.
Baby acne can occur in very young babies of 2 or 3 weeks, more commonly boys, up until around 6 months or so. It appears on various parts of the baby’s body such as the forehead, cheeks and chin, or more rarely the bottom or back, and appears as small white spots on the skin. Or it could look like a red rash with raised bumps.
The good news is that baby acne is not serious and very rarely requires any treatment, so refrain from rushing out looking to buy baby acne remedies. In fact you should refrain from any baby acne remedies until you have seen your doctor and usually your doctor will not prescribe any medication at all.
Baby acne usually goes away by itself. It is sufficient in most cases to do some gentle facial cleansing once or at most twice a day using a mild baby cleanser and clean water. Do not scrub baby’s face, this will not help and may be counterproductive. Don’t apply lotions or potions or oils. Don’t look for fancy baby acne remedies, don’t try applying vinegar solution for baby acne as some do.
It will all go away in time. When attending one of your regular baby check ups ask them about it. Chances they will tell you it’s just baby acne, don’t worry about it.

Acne is a common problem for teenagers, and most parents of those teens probably dealt with it themselves, to some degree. In most cases, the acne disappeared once the teenage years were past but this is little comfort to most teens in the midst of it now. As a parent, you need to provide moral support but also some good hard facts.

Now, just because you dealt with acne when you were a teen doesn’t make you an expert. Treatments and medications have come a long way in the last few years. Knowing what is available today will let you help your child decide the best way to deal with their acne.

It’s always a good idea to talk to a health care professional for advice. For one thing, a dermatologist can tell you for sure whether those spots are in fact acne. There are other skin conditions that look similar, but need to be treated differently.

Teenagers are usually embarrassed by their acne, so it might be a touchy subject to talk about. You’ll know your teen best but it’s important to be supportive and understanding. Never accuse them of bad habits that led to acne – the old myths about acne being caused by chocolate and greasy foods have been proven to be false.

It’s likely that your teenager is trying everything possible to control their acne. If if they avoid talking about it, it’s probably on their mind most of the time. It can affect their self image and in some cases can ultimately lead to depression and withdrawal.

Let them know that you’re available and will do whatever you can to help them with their acne problem. It can sometimes help to talk about your own experiences if you dealt with it as a teen.

While it’s probably small comfort to them, you can remind them that most teens deal with acne to some degree. Studies show that roughly 85% of adolescents have acne and up to 40% have a severe enough case to require dermatologist treatment.

Acne doesn’t last forever – as your teen gets older it will most likely become less and less of a problem for them. By the time they reach their 20’s, it will likely be a distant memory – at least until they have teenagers of their own!

It’s dreaded by teenagers everywhere – regardless of their skin color, the language they speak or what social circles they run in. If anything is going to bring the youth of today together in a common cause, it’s the fight against acne.

Teenagers everywhere are constantly on the lookout for effective acne treatments, but just as acne can come in many forms and degrees of severity, there are many different treatments available. The one that will work best for one person won’t necessarily be the best for someone else.

Before you can decide on the best treatment option, it helps to understand what it is that actually causes acne. It’s commonly believed to be caused by poor hygiene, but that isn’t the case. It is actually caused by changes in the body that can’t (and shouldn’t) be stopped.

Teenage acne is often due to hormonal changes in the body that causes excess secretion of oil, which can block pores and trap dirt and moisture. The result is the blackheads and pimples that are so common among teens.

Effective treatments are available for the various forms of acne, and a dermatologist will be able to thoroughly diagnose a particular case and recommend the proper treatment.

If you’ve ever looked at the many acne treatments that are available at any drug store or pharmacy, you’ll probably have seen shelves full of creams, gels and lotions that promise to be the cure to end all acne problems.

These treatments work for some people and not for others, but they are often attempting to treat any and all forms of acne, which just isn’t possible. The most effective treatments will be tailored for a given person’s acne.

Some of these treatments will include azelaic acid creams, benzoyl peroxide or Accutane. They may be in the form of topical creams or lotions. Each of these treatments is best suited to deal with certain types of acne, with varying strengths depending on the severity of the acne.

Many teens spend a lot of time and money trying every possible treatment to get rid of their acne. The trouble is, the treatments are often not dealing with the cause in their particular situation. A visit to a dermatologist is the best way to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, customized for a particular case.

Do you suffer from acne and what is your best acne remedy?

There are several remedies that may be tried to treat acne. While there are natural home remedies and other medicinal remedies, acne can be best treated with herbal remedies. Curing acne using herbal measures means that there is no such cure that applies to all. Instead cures are devised keeping in mind the rate of metabolism of a particular person and speed with which elimination of excess oil may be done through the lymphatic system.

Best Acne Remedy – Natural Herbs

When herbal measures are undertaken to treat cases of acne the most commonly used is the class of herbs known as alterative herbs. This class of herbs does the work of detoxifying. Normally, this kind of treatment is better than most over-the-counter acne cures. Alterative herbs like burdock, figwort and poke root are best used for long-term treatment, that is, results won’t be sudden but will be permanent. Different concoctions can be made by changing the combinations of herbs.

Generally, most people choose the shortcut way of self medication. Creams, ointments and cosmetics claiming miracles overnight flood the market! However, the safest way of treating acne is using natural herbals. There are many herbs that work wonders on acne for adults and teenagers. Certain herbs are chiefly suited for females and males separately. Natural herbals for the cure of acne also cure hormonal imbalances in many cases. These herbs work internally and improve not only skin conditions, but also, health conditions.

Natural herbs are a wonderful way of detoxifying the blood system and helps improve skin related problems. A good remedy for acne is an herbal face wash made from chickweed tea which also helps treat sores, burns and skin rashes. Ginger and lobelia also help cure acne in a large way. Natural herbs are convenient and cost effective, too. Instead of spending huge amounts on cosmetics you can pluck red berries, grapefruit, lemon and peach to treat acne.

Tea tree oil and fresh cabbage juice are highly effective in driving acne away. Tea tree oil can be applied directly to breakouts though it might be needed to be diluted for those with sensitive skin. Fresh cabbage juice, more gentle, is in fact a better option for people with sensitive skin. Chamomile and calendula are two popular herbal acne remedy choices.

Best Acne Remedy – Herbal Acne Products

Herbal acne remedies are now packaged by different companies to suit the needs of different individuals. But it is always beneficial to take the help of popular search engines to find exactly which treatment can help your case the best. Checking options out at the local health store might also be of great help. Herbs are considered to be the best acne remedy since there are a wide variety of choices available. But whatever it is, a thorough research on the remedy and its effects must be made to absolutely ensure that no harm is done and you get the best out of the treatment taken.

In short, the best acne remedy is the use of natural herbs. They are inexpensive and often the most potent with minimal side affects.
